A Day With Them: Sharing Love

  • Home / Uncategorized / A Day With…

The sun rises over the lush, volcanic landscape of Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, painting the sky with vibrant hues. Today is a special day, dedicated to connecting with the resilient refugee children who have found temporary solace here. Our theme, “A Day With Them,” encapsulates our desire to offer not just aid, but genuine companionship and a sense of normalcy.

Our day begins with the comforting aroma of a shared meal. We work together, preparing nutritious food that will bring smiles to many faces. Laughter echoes as we chop vegetables and stir pots, the simple act of cooking becoming a communal bond.

After the meal is ready, the real fun begins. We spend hours playing with the children, their energy infectious. Every moment is filled with unadulterated delight. The shy smiles gradually transform into hearty laughs as they experience carefree play.

Beyond the games, we offer practical care. With gentle hands, we trim hair, a small but significant gesture that helps restore dignity and a sense of self-worth. We also distribute clothes, carefully chosen to offer comfort and warmth, reminding them that they are seen and cared for.

But perhaps the most valuable offering of the day is simply our presence. We sit with them, listen to their stories, and share moments of quiet connection. This “quality time” is about more than just activities; it’s about building trust, fostering hope, and reminding these children that even in the face of adversity, there is still kindness, joy, and a community that cares deeply for them. As the sun sets, casting long shadows, we leave Goma with hearts full, knowing that “A Day With Them” has truly made a difference.
